Gaithersburg, MD (PRWEB) January 19, 2010

Talbot Business Solutions, LLC, a premier software solutions provider, announced today the release of the Web Information Access Portal (WIAP) for its Membership and Benefit Fund Administration software product, MTSS-mba.

MTSS-mba is a custom-tailored software product for tracking and administering membership and benefit fund information, serving private and the Taft-Hartley multi-employer benefit fund industry.

The formal release of the WIAP module comes on the heals of overwhelming interest and enthusiastic reviews of the pre-release information shared at the IFEBP 55th annual conference in Orlando. The WIAP module adds a HIPAA compliant, secure web access capability layer to the MTSS-mba system allowing other MTSS-mba modules to share their data with the outside world. This new feature enables administrators to offer members easy, yet secure, access to their union membership and benefit fund information through a web browser.

Information available to the outside and the security required to permit access, are defined by the administrator. Membership data might include SSN, DOB, name and addresses, marriage status, benefit eligibility, benefit payments history, employment status for example while non-membership groups such as employers, could access totally different information.

MTSS-mba began as a custom developed software application in 1991. It was designed to track and administer membership and membership benefit fund data for membership based organizations and entities such as Health and Welfare or Legal Services Funds. The recent release of MTSS-mba –Membership and Benefits Administration Software, now represents the cumulative result of considerable effort and careful study of current private and Taft-Hartley multi-employer, employee benefit administrator’s informational and data processing requirements.

Since its inception and introduction to the market place, the feature set of MTSS-mba has continued to expand. These features now include reporting and calculating dues, benefits eligibility, payments, payment shortages, document imaging, member and benefit statistics, automatic downloading of employer and membership data, benefit provider reconciliation, eligibility and benefit experience costing, and most recently, web access; all of which reflect a mature product’s evolution, responding to industry changes and user requests.

Every MTSS-mba module and feature has been designed for user friendliness and user tested to ensure it is providing the desired information. MTSS-mba modules are seamlessly interwoven and result in a cohesive, intuitive application that runs smoothly, fast, and fits each user’s needs to a 'T'. MTSS-mba is easy to maintain and designed to be contention free; even for hundreds of simultaneous users - so ‘nobody has to wait’. Data is quickly and easily retrieved at your desktop; right where you need it.

Users have noted that MTSS-mba has allowed them to immediately:

-Reduce the time required to keep data up to date

-Reduce the mistakes and errors in their data

-Reduce underpayments for benefits

Flexible Work Schedules Top Employee Productivity Wish List

Flexible Work Schedules Top Employee Productivity Wish List

This release shares the results of a recent online poll asking workers to cite the number one benefit program that would make them more productive at work.

Shelton, CT (PRWEB) July 23, 2008

Asked to name the one benefit program that would make them more productive on the job, an overwhelming majority of respondents (63%) cited a "flexible work schedule" -- the top reply to a recent poll by LifeCare (http://www. lifecare. com)®, Inc., a longtime leader in the work/life industry. The next most popular response was "enhanced health and wellness program" (10%).

Here are the full results of the poll, conducted throughout the month of June on LifeCare's private web site among employees of its 1,500 client organizations:

What one benefit program would enable you to be more productive at work?

Flexible work schedule – 63% Enhanced health and wellness program – 10% Enhanced child or elder care assistance – 8% Stress management program – 7% Time management program – 6%

Another six percent cited a variety of other reasons, each representing less than one percent. These included: family sick time, an on-site gym, regular break times and less micro-management.

"Clearly, flexible work schedules are attractive to far more people than Gen Y-ers alone," said LifeCare CEO, Peter G. Burki. "They're a great attraction and retention benefit because they enable people of all ages to take care of important obligations outside of their jobs -- caring for a spouse or older loved one, taking care of their children or addressing their own health and fitness needs."

However, Burki noted, flexible schedules don't work for every organization due to the nature of their business. In these cases, employers should look to the other items mentioned in the poll to enhance their attraction and retention strategies. "Enhanced wellness programs (http://www. lifecare. com/connection/0708_p9.html), enhanced child and elder care programs (http://www. lifecare. com/miscellaneous/Presenteeism_Study_0208.pdf) and stress management programs all offer employers a win-win proposition," he said. "They not only help employees become more focused and productive on the job but they also reduce an organization's medical expenses and other productivity losses related to these issues. They're the kind of benefits that end up paying for themselves in the long run."

Each month, LifeCare posts a poll on its private web site, asking individuals to share their thoughts and opinions on the latest issues and work/life trends (http://www. lifecare. com/news/connection. html). Past polls have addressed topics such as stress, health and wellness, aging, flexible work arrangements, and child and elder care needs.

About LifeCare®, Inc.

LifeCare offers cost-saving benefits that help clients reduce their most pervasive absenteeism and productivity drains, including child and elder care, caregiving support, health and wellness issues, and more. For more than two decades, LifeCare has led the work/life industry in the creation of high-quality, results-oriented programs designed to improve clients' bottom line. LifeCare serves 1,500 client companies with 4.5 million individuals within corporations, health plans, government agencies and unions. For more information, visit www. lifecare. com.

Look Out KFC Double Down, IHOP Pancake Stacker & BK Mimosa - Freshii Launches Zero Calorie Menu with Elemental Sides

Look Out KFC Double Down, IHOP Pancake Stacker & BK Mimosa - Freshii Launches Zero Calorie Menu with Elemental Sides

"It’s disappointing when the food industry concocts +1000 calorie items for their menus, with the sole purpose of extorting America's love of more is more. At Freshii, we offer more too - more fresh customizable items that leave our customers energized, light, and feeling fantastic, instead of weighed down by one of the many diseases caused by unhealthy eating choices," said Freshii founder and CEO Matthew Corrin.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 3, 2010

Been to pancake heaven, done the chicken bun, don't miss Freshii's new atmospheric twist. Salad, meet air.

Just days after the public debuts of KFC's Double Down, IHOP's Pancake Stacker, and BK’s Mimosa, Freshii introduces a new menu fixture - the Light as Air Salad. Slide the Mimosas aside and gulp up a super size serving of water with extra thick straw or eat it with a spoon, as others like to do.

Freshii's Airiest Menu Item Yet

Freshii's Light as Air marries fat-free, zero-calorie lettuce filled with organically grown air, all surrounded by a double dose rainbow of zero-calorie oxygen molecules. Light as Air is available solo or in a combo meal, which marries hydrogen and an extra helping of oxygen to the mix.

Health Facts on Freshii's Light as Air

Test markets have shown the new Light as Air contains a non-existent 0 calories, a stark contrast to fat-stacked meals available in the fast food industry today. The Light as Air is also available in a double-tossed version, which checks in at an impressive -15 calories. For more extraordinary nutrition facts, visit www. freshii. com/menu (http://www. freshii. com/menu).

And yes, Freshii's new salad can be life altering. One combo boasts an additional decade of life expectancy, or cancels out the 10 years lost from downing a Double Down and Pancake Stacker.

Stay tuned as Freshii pioneers plans for the run-thru window.

“Obesity is an endemic crisis in America, which is wholly preventable; restaurants must be socially responsible and arm customers with health-conscious choices," said Freshii founder and CEO Matthew Corrin (http://www. fastcasual. com/article. php? id=17320&na=1). "It’s disappointing when the food industry concocts +1000 calorie items for their menus, with the sole purpose of extorting America's love of more is more. At Freshii, we offer more too - more fresh customizable items that leave our customers energized, light, and feeling fantastic, instead of weighed down by one of the many diseases caused by unhealthy eating choices.”

About Freshii

Freshii's new store openings have been met by massive lines of people looking to satisfy their craving for a nutritious meal on the go. Freshii's menu offers build-your-own salads, burritos, wraps, rice bowls, yogurts and soups in a "build your own" format, personalized with ingredients from three categories: light - super low in fat, but high in fiber, essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and lean protein, balanced - essential fats, slow-burning carbs, good oils and high protein, and classic - great flavors to be enjoyed in moderation. Visit Freshii's Web site to create a virtual salad, wrap, rice bowl or soup and instantly see the nutritional value of your ingredients. Since 2005, Freshii has achieved recognition as the perfect place for convenient, healthy and delicious meals and snacks served fast enough to fit into anyone's busy schedule. Freshii's hip, friendly and environmentally sustainable atmosphere has brought the concept fast popularity and triggered its nationwide expansion across North America with 300 locations open and under development in over 18 cities around the world – including Dubai and Vienna.

Dental Surgical Equipment Market to Reach $4.9 Billion by 2015, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

Worldwide sales of dental surgical equipment are projected to reach $4.9 billion by 2015, driven by demographic and socioeconomic trends. Further, rising frequency of dental visits for aesthetic, periodontic and restorative procedures continue to enhance sales of dental surgical equipment.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) November 11, 2008

Capital equipment used in dentistry is extremely durable and are therefore purchased less frequently by professionals, as a result of which changes are evolutionary rather than revolutionary. An aging global population, particularly in the development markets of United States, Europe and Japan, constitutes a major driving force for the market. With older people striving to maintain natural teeth for a longer time span, the demand for preventive dental care, restorative and cosmetic dental procedures, requiring specialized products, is on rise. Also, growing awareness levels about dental services among patients, and increasing consumer affluence are contributing to enhanced number of dental procedures. Advances in dental techniques and procedures including cosmetic dentistry and dental implantation are emerging as other growth catalysts for the dental care sector.

United States and Europe collectively account for more than 70% share of the worldwide dental surgical equipment market (http://www. strategyr. com/Dental_Surgical_Equipment_Market_Report. asp) for 2008, as stated in a recent report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc. Developing countries including India, China, and Brazil present vast growth opportunities for players in the global dental surgical equipment market. Favorable socio-economic conditions in these regions are expected to augment the demand for dentists, dental services and dental consumable products and equipment.

Dental surgical equipment in the United States is driven by factors such as aging baby boomer population, public awareness of dental health, and emphasis on periodontal and cosmetic dentistry. The market is witnessing an upsurge in demand for preventive treatment and cosmetic surgery. On the other hand, the market for traditional products such as fillings and dentures is witnessing moderate growth. An innovative breakthrough aid in minor dental surgeries, dental lasers are designed to make both hard and soft tissue incisions, thereby eliminating the need for traditional painful drilling. Factors triggering growth of dental lasers market (http://www. strategyr. com/Dental_Surgical_Equipment_Market_Report. asp) include precision cutting, better and long lasting filling capacity, and greater control. The market for dental lasers in the United States is expected exceed sales of US$153 million by 2012.

A National Disgrace

A National Disgrace

Republicans who supported McCain in 2000 see similarities between the Bush 2000 Republican Primary and 2004 Presidential Campaign.

Columbus Ohio (PRWEB) September 1, 2004

As the Swift Boat Veterans’ questions about John Kerry’s war record threatened to dominate the mainstream news media, it seemed like déjà vu to Ohio’s Tom Terez. Terez, a McCain supporter in the 2000 Republican Primary and a lifelong registered Republican. Terez called the Swift Boat Veterans’ claims “laughably transparent,” comparing them to the Bush smear campaign against McCain during the 2000 Republican Primary.

“Desperate to stop the popular McCain in South Carolina, Bush operatives planted rumors that McCain had fathered an illegitimate child who was black. A professor at Bob Jones University even sent an e-mail to “fellow South Carolinians” stating that McCain had “chosen to sire children without marriage.” Bush said nothing -- and went on to win.” For Terez the motive for the Bush campaign’s slander of John Kerry is obvious. “The administration is desperately trying to divert attention away from the nearly 1,000 U. S. soldiers killed in Iraq, the 6,000 wounded, the $180 billion price tag for the Iraq War, the $445 billion deficit, the 44 million Americans without health coverage, the 1.8 million lost private-sector jobs, and more.”

Peter McLaughlin, a Connecticut Republican who also supported McCain in 2000, calls the smear campaign “a national disgrace.” “I can scarcely think of more monstrous behavior by our commander in chief,” McLaughlin said recently, “than to avoid the draft and combat in his nation's hour of need, to later order other soldiers to their death and wounds in a dubious adventure, and to denigrate or to allow the denigration of better men and true war heroes like McCain and Kerry. “ McLaughlin believes that “Kerry volunteering for Vietnam duty, volunteering for Swift Boat service and combat, and then talking about the horrors [he] witnessed and trying to end what [he thought was] an unjust war, is courageous.”

Dave Haner, a Gulf War I veteran who maintains a web site focusing on veterans issues, followed the Swift Boat Veterans activities closely. In a recent essay, “Swift Boat Ironies,” he offers some advice for members of the Swift Boat Veterans. He writes: “Maybe it is time for Mr. Hart and Mr. Thurlow to acknowledge the truth. Your own records prove John Kerry a hero. And Mr. Thurlow should be proud of the Bronze Star he earned that day. He should be proud of his own service, as he should be of Sen. Kerry’s. Mr. Thurlow should think of another legitimate strategy to fight against the man that he doesn’t want to be President. Just this time, do it honestly…” “As a decorated and disabled Gulf War I vet, I support Kerry for President,” Haner writes, “not only as a war hero (and at least his pay records show he reported for duty), but because he shows the type of leadership we need at this time in history. He will win, in politics and on the battlefield.”

The Green Computer Myth: How Green are Green Computers?

The Green Computer Myth: How Green are Green Computers?

Is "lead-free," "power savings" and a "take-back program" as good as it gets? A lot more can and is being done already. Computers with up to 97% less brominated flame retardants (BFRs), up to 97% less toxins and carcinogens, cleaner manufacturing.

Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) November 7, 2006

What exactly is a "green" computer? How green is it really? Is lead-free, some minor power savings, and a "take-back" program as good as it gets, as required by European RoHS regulations and the voluntary EPEAT standard in the U. S.? Is that good enough? What more can be done already?

"Even so-called 'green computers' as listed on the official EPEAT website (www. epeat. net), still contain considerable amounts of toxic and carcinogenic substances," says Thomas Schramm, president of GreenMachineShop. com. "The components are usually not manufactured with the environment in mind."

Electronics, including computer electronics, contain considerable amounts of brominated flame retardants (BFRs), up to 1 ounce per computer motherboard. The used BFR, with the name TBBPA (Tetrabromobisphenol-A), is immunotoxic, hepatotoxic, neurotoxic, an endocrine disruptor, and can block the thyroid hormone receptor (http://www. cleanproduction. org/library/bfr_report_pages1-43.pdf (http://www. cleanproduction. org/library/bfr_report_pages1-43.pdf), page 19). Bisphenol-A, which can mimic estrogen, has recently been linked to prostate cancer and received national press this summer.

The typical PC component manufacturing process uses and releases toxins, carcinogens, paint and oil-based substances into the environment and residue of them remain in the computer while sitting next to you and gas-out, evaporating over time in the computer users office or home.

People with multiple chemical sensitivity syndrome (MCS) go to great lengths to shield themselves from those toxins. Some get physically ill within 15 minutes of sitting next to regular computer and they are not able to continue their work routine. Some MCS sufferers put computers in another room or build special enclosure of aluminum and glass just to stay away from these harmful substances.

What can those chemicals do to "normal" people?

Over 80 percent of the life-time energy consumption of a computer is already used before it sits next to us and does its job. True energy savings can only be achieved in two ways: first, slowing down the replacement cycle; and second, turning the computer off when it is not in use. Extending the replacement cycle by only one year can save about 20 percent or more of the lifetime energy use (electricity, manufacturing, shipping, etc.) of the computer.

To be able to extend the replacement cycle and still have a computer that is running as stable after five years as it was running when new requires components and engineering that plans for this longevity. That is how we select our motherboards. The greener manufacturing provides a better quality product which then in turn lasts longer. Usually computers are designed to run stable for two or three years and the replacement cycle is about four years.

The take-back programs do unfortunately not take back the toxins and carcinogens that have been released during manufacturing, in your house and then during recycling.

To be honest, the perfect green computer cannot be built just yet. However, GreenMachineShop. com is coming as close as possible. Our computers exceed EPEAT and ROHS requirements, come with a take-back program, including the replacement computer, and with a power consumption up to 10% below the industry average.

Additionally, the computers reduce brominated flame retardants by up to 97 percent, toxic and carcinogenic substances by up to 97 percent and noise up to 85 percent. For some people with MCS, this is just the difference they need. A client of ours can now work more than two hours straight, while before, she needed only 15 minutes exposure to a computer to fall too sick to work.

Computers start at $897 and are available online at www. greenmachineshop. com.

GreenMachineShop. com -- "Healthy Computing Through Environmental Responsibility" is a computer manufacturer and marketer that seeks to bring the highest quality and most ergonomic green PC solutions to computer users who care about their health, productivity and the environment. They are in preparations to have their computers listed in the EPEAT program. GreenMachineShop. com believes well designed tools and equipment can increase your physical and mental well being.

Cancer: Nutrition and Survival is a Book that Will Impact Oncology

Cancer: Nutrition and Survival is a Book that Will Impact Oncology

The new book Cancer: Nutrition and Survival by Drs. Steve Hickey, Ph. D. and Hilary Roberts, Ph. D. is a treatise on cancer biology. Hickey and Roberts review for the reader science that explains how cells grow and die, the causes of cancer, and what among the nontoxic substances have been found to be lethal to cancer cells without harming ordinary cells.

Lisle, IL (PRWEB) December 4, 2005

The perfect cancer therapy would kill cancers without harming ordinary cells. Billions have been spent on cancer research, yet cancer researchers have failed to discover the magic bullet. Or, is it possible that such cancer bullets been found, and overlooked or ignored, as too good to be true.

The book may have been entitled Vitamin C Kills Cancer, because the most important natural cancer killing substance that professors Hickey and Roberts cover is vitamin C, called ascorbate in high dosages. It does not seem possible that this low-cost substance is lethal to cancer cells. It is completely nontoxic to normal cells, even a vital nutrient, and it has no known serious side effects at almost any dosage. It sounds like science fiction, but this book is based on science.

Hickey and Roberts’ review of the literature informs us that scientists and researchers have now discovered other natural, nontoxic substances that appear to equal or amplify vitamin C’s cancer killing ability.

Readers will learn the following:

How better diagnosis skews 5-year cancer survival statistics. Cancer discovered earlier means patients live longer after the diagnosis, not that conventional treatments are necessarily more effective today.

Why it is normal for cells to die to protect the life of the organism; programmed cell death is called apoptosis. (This process is analogous to tree leaves dying in winter to prevent the death of the entire tree.) Hickey and Roberts explain how antioxidants trigger apoptosis in cancer cells.

Why cancers become aggressive, and why conventional methods that shrink but don't destroy tumors can lead to more aggressive tumors.

Why longevity and well-being might be increased by doing nothing in lieu of accepting conventional treatment.

The proper (very high) dosages for controlling cancer with "magic bullet" antioxidants, e. g., vitamin C. The book explains why some dosages will stop cancer growth and why even higher dosages can create blood levels that kill cancers.

An explanation of the confusing experimental findings that have revealed that low dosages of nutrients, including vitamin C, may "feed" fast growing cancer cells, leading to more aggressive growth of tumors.

That nutrients can reach cancer-killing levels via oral administration in most people. Oral administration is not only feasible and advisable, but it is a necessary adjunct to I. V. C administration, in order to keep constant pressure on the growing cancer.

Recently, scientists at the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH) made an important discovery. They reported their experiments and confirmed the "magic bullet" nature of vitamin C. Levin and others found in test tubes that vitamin C, as ascorbic acid, was lethal to cancer cells, but not to ordinary cells. According to the NIH, cancer cells die at serum blood levels that require intravenous infusion. Hickey and Roberts have previously informed us in their earlier books (ASCORBATE: The Science of Vitamin C, and the Ridiculous Dietary Allowance) that the required blood concentrations of vitamin C are achievable orally by following their Dynamic Flow model for continuous intake.

CANCER: Nutrition and Survival is written by scientists for scientists, oncologists and other medical professionals and cancer patients. These pharmacology professors tell us that the science exists, but that various natural, unpatenable substances are not being utilized by conventional oncology in the fight against cancer, nor are they being actively studied by pharmaceutical companies (possibly for monetary reasons).

Six Critical Questions CIOs Should Ask Before Entering the Cloud

Six Critical Questions CIOs Should Ask Before Entering the Cloud

Solution Provider Logicalis Helps IT Pros Manage Risk in the Cloud.

Farmington Hills, MI (Vocus) August 3, 2010

Fear of the unknown is a powerful emotion. But when you’re an IT exec, fear of the unknown – particularly when you’re talking about moving into the cloud - really comes down to fear of making a costly mistake. To help its customers navigate through the cloud computing conundrum, Logicalis, an international provider of integrated information and communications technology (ICT) solutions and services, has identified Six Critical Questions CIOs Should Ask Before Entering the Cloud. More information about Logicalis’ cloud computing expertise can be found at http://bit. ly/cCiI3D.

At this point, most businesses have read enough about cloud computing to know that it can potentially offer additional capabilities and cost savings. And while CEOs and CFOs are pushing IT departments into the cloud to reap the financial rewards, CIOs and IT managers who haven’t yet bridged the gap between cloud and their own existing in-house services may feel a certain sense of trepidation every time the subject comes up.

Mike Martin, director of cloud computing at Logicalis says the thought of not knowing who has access to their organization’s data makes IT professionals concerned about how best to leverage the cloud while protecting their company’s sensitive data.

Asking six important questions, however, can help technology pros manage their risk in the cloud.

Six Critical Questions CIOs Should Ask Before Entering the Cloud

1. What’s My Bottom Line? Identify the characteristics of the solutions that you are going to outsource that are most important to your company. Some examples include:

Determining if the cloud provider offers appropriate service level agreements (SLA)  Finding out how secure your data will be in the cloud  Knowing whether you need a cloud provider with specific regulatory expertise or data encryption options  Discovering if the cloud provider is financially sound  Ensuring they have the right experience to manage enterprise cloud services

2. How Transparent is that Cloud? Be sure that the cloud provider you choose can supply detailed information about its security architecture. Request a copy of the provider’s Statement on Auditing No. 70 (SAS 70) audit controls which ensure that the provider meets government and industry requirements. The SAS 70, developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, covers data transmission and storage technology practices, including network operations, data safeguards, and physical security elements.

Find out how the cloud expands on the value of a virtualized infrastructure here: http://bit. ly/9fwh6o

3. Where’s the Security Guard? A critical component to a healthy cloud strategy is ensuring that your internal security technologies and practices such as network firewalls and user access controls are strong and mesh well with your cloud provider’s own security measures. Remember: Your side of the infrastructure is just as vulnerable, if not more so, than the cloud provider’s side.

Industry analysts forecast a rapid formation of cloud offerings, with IDC predicting the cloud services market topping $42 billion by 2012, and Dataquest predicting that between 28 - 37 percent of all server shipments by 2012 will be for cloud building. A new enterprise cloud offering from Logicalis is in direct response to that market demand. Find out more here: http://bit. ly/avAMOM

4. Is It Legal? Laws and regulations affect what you can put in the cloud. A cloud provider should include the auditing controls for change management in their SAS 70 to meet any regulatory requirements that they are supporting. Unwillingness to commit to an audit request should be a big red flag.

Instead of looking for ways to fit your IT into a cloud, a more effective strategy is to start with your needs and see what cloud options could work for you. Read more here: http://bit. ly/aSNcJ2

5. What’s the Address? Ask any potential providers if they will commit to storing and processing data in specific jurisdictions, and whether they will make a contractual commitment to obey local privacy/regulatory requirements.

6. Are They the Lone Ranger? Make sure you choose a cloud provider that really takes your relationship seriously and provides a solid partnership when supporting and hosting your server and data needs. What you don’t want here is the Lone Ranger. Be sure to ask for references and check them! Find out how flexible they are when working with you on your security requirements. Will they be there if you have audit controls that need their assistance? And finally, are they strong enough to hang in there for the long term – what kind of financial footing are they standing on? Choose a partner that will be there when you need them.

New Technology Can Diagnose Sinus Problems Faster - But Not in Michigan

New Technology Can Diagnose Sinus Problems Faster - But Not in Michigan

Due to the Certificate of Need (CON) regulation in Michigan, Xoran Technologies, a Michigan based medical device, is unable to sell their revolutionary upright CT scanner.

Ann Arbor, Mich. (PRWEB) September 10, 2006

In this heated election year, politicians are eager to showcase big plans to bolster Michigan’s sagging business economy with incentives for businesses to develop and market high-tech products and create new jobs.

Xoran Technologies® of Ann Arbor is one of the recipients of such incentives, having been honored by the state of Michigan with the prestigious "Innovator's Award," named one of the "50 Companies to Watch in Michigan," and having received a Single Business Tax credit valued at more than $7.1 million. In an ironic twist, however, Xoran cannot sell its products in Michigan.

Xoran makes small, specialized computed tomography (CT) scanners for physicians to use at their patients’ point of care. Xoran’s MiniCAT™ scanner is an upright, patient-friendly sinus and ear CT scanner that gives doctors instant access to high quality images in order to diagnose and treat patients faster. MiniCAT™ also emits ten times less of a radiation dose than a sinus or ear scan taken by a full-sized CT scanner.

However, Michigan residents who want fast access to a high quality CT scan at a reasonable cost will have go to Ohio, Indiana, or Illinois for their scan, because Michigan doctors cannot buy a MiniCAT™ in Michigan.

Michigan’s certificate of need (CON) regulation prevents healthcare facilities from purchasing medical equipment such as CT scanners, unless they can prove they will use the equipment enough to meet minimum thresholds set by the state. A new high-tech product such as MiniCAT™, cannot meet these high thresholds because it is designed for limited imaging tasks, unlike full-sized CT scanners designed to scan the entire body and used almost exclusively in hospitals and imaging centers for around-the-clock care.

“The CON regulation is intended to ensure that Michigan residents have access to quality healthcare at an affordable cost,” said Jacqueline Vestevich, vice president and chief operating officer at Xoran, “and it is clear that Xoran’s MiniCAT™ scanner does just that. This is a case of Michigan laws failing to keep pace with the creation of high-tech, beneficial products encouraged by State incentive programs.”

Founded in 2001 by two research scientists at the University of Michigan, Xoran Technologies is the innovator and market leader in compact, specialized medical CT scanners. Xoran is a customer - focused medical imaging company passionate about bringing fresh, common sense solutions to patient care. Xoran’s scanners generate immediate, digitally versatile images of exceptional quality, allowing physicians to accelerate patient diagnosis and treatment, while keeping scanning revenue in their practice. For more information on Xoran Technologies call (800) 70-XORAN or visit http://www. xorantech. com (http://www. xorantech. com).

Keymar, MD (PRWEB) March 9, 2007

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has completed its investigation into the cause of death in the incident on January 23, 2007, involving Isaiah Simmons. The staff at Bowling Brook wishes to again express our deepest sympathies to Isaiah's family. Our understanding is that the Medical Examiner's report indicates that Isaiah's death was ruled a homicide. Isaiah's death is a personal tragedy for both his family and for the students and staff of Bowling Brook. Bowling Brook has always placed the health and welfare of every student at the forefront of our mission to youth, and we continue to grieve the passing of this young man.

For the last 20 years of our 50 year history, Bowling Brook's academic model has served as a successful alternative to architecturally secure care for many hundreds of young men who have been committed to the juvenile justice system. Cited as a "Best Practices" institution in 2002, the Maryland legislature has recognized the value of Bowling Brook as a private nonprofit educational and residential environment for young men involved in the juvenile justice system.

Throughout the past 50 years, Bowling Brook has achieved an exemplary record of success while serving our young men. Specifically:

79% of students earn their high school diploma while attending Bowling Brook; From 2003 to 2006, Bowling Brook students attended a total of 340 college classes with a 98% pass rate; In 2006, 158 (89%) of Bowling Brook students successfully graduated from our program. Of these graduates, 49% were accepted to college or technical school, 35% were employed, and 16% transitioned to community-based educational and apprenticeship programs; In 2006, Bowling Brook students performed over 40,000 hours of community service across Maryland and 63 students earned Presidential Volunteer Gold Service Awards for completing over 250 hours of community service; For the past 17 years, Bowling Brook students have participated and succeeded in interscholastic football, basketball, wrestling, power-lifting, and track. Our students have been recognized statewide for outstanding sportsmanship, competitiveness, leadership and teamwork ethic. Our students' achievements are a direct result of the efforts of a staff team with the highest level of integrity and sincere concern for the welfare of the children under their care. The Bowling Brook staff team has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to creating and maintaining a safe and humane environment that is conducive to learning.

Bowling Brook Preparatory School announced last week that we intend to cease operations on March 9, 2007, while the investigation into Isaiah Simmons's tragic death continues. Bowling Brook is managing the safe transition of our students back to the custody of their placing jurisdictions. Since the death of Isaiah Simmons, Bowling Brook has cooperated fully with the Department of Juvenile Services and other investigators, and Bowling Brook will continue this cooperation. Bowling Brook remains committed to serving its mission of helping young men make positive changes in their lives and becoming productive citizens and Bowling Brook is proud of its fifty year history of fulfilling that mission.

Allianz Life and Citizens Bank Streamline Compliance and Improve Security with SailPoint IdentityIQ

Allianz Life and Citizens Bank Streamline Compliance and Improve Security with SailPoint IdentityIQ

Established companies including Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz) and Citizens Bank are both using SailPoint IdentityIQ to manage corporate risk and comply with federal regulations.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) February 4, 2009

SailPoint (http://www. sailpoint. com) today announced that its flagship product, IdentityIQ, is the identity governance product of choice by a growing number of global enterprises in a variety of vertical market segments. Established companies including Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (http://www. allianz. com/en/index. html) (Allianz) and Citizens Bank (http://www. citizensbank. com/home/) are both using IdentityIQ to manage corporate risk and comply with federal regulations.

SailPoint IdentityIQ (http://www. sailpoint. com/product/) allows organizations to automate the access rights verification and certification process, which is required as part of many regulations like Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). Companies unable to verify and certify their access are at risk of failing IT audits. IdentityIQ also helps organizations proactively manage risk by reducing security vulnerabilities exploited by disgruntled former employees and criminal identity theft rings. SailPoint customers have complete visibility into and control over user access privileges, allowing them to manage corporate sea change events such as mergers and acquisitions, reductions in staff and increased use of contract employees without worrying about detrimental consequences if the proper controls are not in place.

IdentityIQ uses advanced analytics and adaptive role modeling to combine business roles and policies with technical data mined from across the IT environment. IdentityIQ then provides meaningful, business-relevant identity information in easy-to-read reports and dashboards, enabling enterprises to identify vulnerabilities associated with user access and strengthen the controls necessary to mitigate those risks.

Industry leaders benefiting from IdentityIQ include:

Allianz selected SailPoint because of its ability to manage complex environments efficiently and cost-effectively, and also for its ability to scale to meet the global company's needs. "Within the first few weeks of implementing SailPoint IdentityIQ, Allianz was able to aggregate, correlate and cleanse data across our SOX-relevant applications," said Joe Dufresne, information security officer at Allianz. "We also fully automated our access review and certification process for 9,000 users across 40,000 accounts. SailPoint allowed us to improve the accuracy of user and entitlement data and more easily understand and oversee the technical access privileges held by specific users within the organization."

Citizens Bank chose IdentityIQ for its ability to translate technical identity data into higher-level business roles. "Citizens Bank needed to empower business managers to approve and deny access privileges of their employees when necessary," said David Griffeth, vice president of enterprise information security at Citizens Bank. "In order for that to be successful, we needed to ensure that the low-level access privileges were mapped to roles and presented in a business-friendly format. SailPoint IdentityIQ allows us to improve the reliability of access review and to minimize our risk exposure through a more effective process of ensuring our workers have appropriate access levels."

For more information about how SailPoint customers, including 5 of the world's top 10 banks and some of the world's largest insurance, telecom, manufacturing, and healthcare companies, are using IdentityIQ, please visit: http://www. sailpoint. com (http://www. sailpoint. com).

About SailPoint

SailPoint Technologies, Inc. develops identity governance software that helps organizations gain control over user access to critical systems and data, streamline costly IT compliance processes and reduce the risks of fraud, corporate data loss or theft and failed audits. In a Flap Over Pension Regulations

In a Flap Over Pension Regulations

The recent introduction of accounting standard FRS17. While FRS17 has been much criticised, the fact is that it is succeeding in forcing companies to confront the true value of their pension scheme liabilities – and many companies can’t handle the truth.

(PRWEB) July 12, 2006

As you might expect, detection of that potentially deadly form of bird flu, H5N1, sends waves of panic surging through the country – especially poultry farmers.

What you may not realise is that another number - FRS17 – is just as likely to get companies, trade unions and pension advisers in a real flap.

Many of them have voiced their disgruntlement over the recent introduction of accounting standard FRS17. And the reason - they can’t handle the truth.

FRS17 was introduced to address the discounting of pension scheme liabilities, based on the erroneous assumption that equities would continue to deliver a healthy level of return for years ahead. Of course, as we now know, the equity market suffered a marked slump.

As a result, there has been a definite shift towards valuing liabilities in a more transparent manner by relating them directly to yields on secure assets, such as government bonds.

But as bond rates have also fallen, the value placed on liabilities has increased substantially, with the result that we have seen the value of assets fall at the same time as the liability. And for the first time, courtesy of FRS17, funds are being valued correctly.

So while FRS17 has been much criticised, the fact is that it is succeeding in forcing companies to confront the true value of their pension scheme liabilities – and many companies can’t handle the truth.

Likewise, many trade unions dislike FRS17 because when companies do face up to the value of their liabilities, they’re then forced to do something about it - more often than not cutting back on future pension provision. Pension advisers dislike it because clients are switching to lower cost, lower risk pension arrangements.

Whilst by no means perfect, from the perspective of shareholders, analysts and financiers, FRS17 is valuable because by placing a realistic value on pension liabilities, it provides a benchmark against which one company can be consistently compared against another. Its use could be further enhanced by the requirement to disclose all assumptions.

It seems quite ludicrous to even attempt to defend the alternative approach whereby a pension cost would be valued according to the preferred assumptions of the actuary concerned. This could mean that company A and company B might have identical pensions arrangements but with entirely different pension scheme costs.

Many responsible pension schemes sponsors are now hoping that a recovery in the equity markets will pull them out of the mess within which they have become mired. However as such a recovery is by no means certain, organisations would be well advised to contact their financial advisors to get pension schemes health checked to make sure they are not teetering on the brink of financial meltdown.

Worryingly for scheme sponsors, there is also a great deal of uncertainty in relation to future life expectancy, with all the evidence appearing to suggest that, until now, likely future improvements in life expectancy have not been fully incorporated.

Over the next few years, new mortality tables will be introduced, factoring in improved life expectancy which will push up company pension liabilities. Whilst the downside of uncertainties in equity markets can be reduced or removed by investing in bonds, companies are completely exposed to the risk of current employees enjoying a much longer retirement than had previously been assumed.

The suspicion lingers that some companies are simply hoping that further gains in equity markets are inevitable rather than there being any convincing reason to believe this should be so. Meanwhile, many companies that have learned, from bitter experience, the risks associated with equity investments, have subsequently sought a degree of protection by investing in bonds, which clearly reduces the potential for upside gain.

Ultimately, though, FRS17 is a good thing for the simple reason that it forces companies, trade unions and some pension advisers to confront the truth about the extent of pension scheme liabilities. The truth may hurt at times, but surely it’s preferable to self-deception?

That is why we have assembled the best investment experts in the business to offer their powerful advisory newsletters to you on all the major investment topics -- Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Options, Futures etc. The Zacks Advisor provides investors with access to stock guru Ben Zacks' personalized picks. This newsletter was designed to help individuals become more successful investors. The first step in that journey was accomplished by making the Zacks Rank available to the public for the first time (after 15+ years of just being available to professional investors and Wall Street insiders). Remember the Zacks #1 Ranked stocks have averaged a 33.7% annual return since 1988. More than double the 12.1% for the S&P 500 over that stretch. Plus it gained 24.27% in 2001 and +14.31% in 2000 while the overall market was in collapse. Along with the Zacks Rank we added many additional features to the site to further empower individuals to research, select and track their investments more effectively.

The Stock of the Day feature is designed to highlight one of the current recommendations on the Zacks Focus List or Timely Buys list. The timing of these picks will be in line with the philosophy of the respective portfolio, and in regards to the overall health of the market. Or, in other words, we are not daytraders, and thus are not suggesting that the stock will rise today.

We provide the tools that enable individuals to manage their investment process successfully. That's why we have won so many awards from prestigious reviewers like Online Investor and Forbes "Best of Web".

12 Tips for Reducing Holiday Madness

12 Tips for Reducing Holiday Madness

The holidays can be a time of not only increased joy and togetherness, but also increased stress. This holiday season, treat yourself right by planning some time out to care for your own spirit.

(PRWEB) November 18, 2004

We all know the holidays can be a time of not only increased joy and togetherness, but also increased stress—sometimes because of all that togetherness! This holiday season, treat yourself right by planning some time out to care for your own spirit.

1. Enjoy some simple family time. Cook a healthy meal together, or order in and tell stories. Play a board game or cards. Simplicity is key -- sit around the kitchen table or lounge in the living room. Just unplug and take time to be together without rushing around to events, parties and shopping.

2. Write gratitude letters. Instead of giving gifts to friends and extended family members, try giving them the gift of loving thoughts. Between friends and family whom you care about, without too much trouble you may find yourself with 20 people for whom youÂ’d like to buy gifts. Invite people to participate in an exchange of gratitude rather than gifts. Remember those love letters you will keep forever? Sometimes the sentiment holds far greater value than anything money can buy.

3. Buy gifts as you go. Buying gifts little by little year-round for birthdays and holidays takes so much pressure off! Being on the lookout for gifts for others throughout the year is not only fun, but also helps to keep mindless spending to a minimum. And it also lets you budget throughout the year, rather than dive into a wild spending frenzy. Just remember to keep gifts in a specific location so you donÂ’t forget about them come holiday time.

4. Drink decaf. Caffeine + stress ¹ relaxation. Sure it feels good at first, helping to pry open tired eyes in the morning, providing a kick in the pants to get motivated, but the downside isnÂ’t pretty. Irritability, anxiety and over-sensitivity are just a few drawbacks that donÂ’t benefit you or loved ones. Try some fresh fruit juice, decaf tea or coffee (or half-regular and half-decaf to get started) or a “natural” alternative from a health food store like Teechino. (Please donÂ’t begin this the week prior to a big holiday -- just cut back a bit until you have time to wean yourself while not amid wild times.)

5. Fill your love quota. Cuddle a pet, stuffed animal, loved one. Take a bath and nurture yourself (for non bath-takers, get a great-smelling shower gel and give your skin a good scrub). Hug, touch and express your feelings about friends. If you feel alone or stumped on how to fill your quota, try visiting an old-folks home or childrenÂ’s hospital to experience a deeper connection with people who need it. You might be surprised how you benefit as much or more!

6. Have an electronic-free day. If at all possible, be it for an hour or for an entire day, turn it all off. Turn off or unplug the TV, computer, phone, cell phone, even the radio and see what it is like to be still. All those electric sound waves do make noise -- we just donÂ’t notice. Let go of all the stimuli and enjoy reading a book or going for a walk in nature.

7. Trim back on the trimmings. Perhaps you have accumulated a hundred pounds of holiday décor over the years. Do you really need it all? No one says you have to throw it away, but perhaps select your favorites and rotate or donate the rest. I was once in a womanÂ’s home who adored Christmas, but it literally took her about two weeks to assemble and even longer to re-pack everything. Talk about reclaiming time!

8. Avoid “over-promising.” If you are a loving, giving person, chances are good that the holidays can catch you over-committing and promising to do more than you can tackle. Let go of unnecessary responsibilities and events that your heart isnÂ’t into, and see how much more time and energy you have for yourself and loved ones. If you donÂ’t say “yes” so much, you wonÂ’t have to rush, cancel or feel so harried this season.

9. Recruit a wrapper. Enough people love to wrap gifts to make up for those who donÂ’t enjoy it or donÂ’t have the time. Hire a teenage neighbor, ask your spouse if s/he enjoys it, or delegate it. Take advantage of storesÂ’ or online outletsÂ’ wrapping options. Just as in business, you want to leverage your time to do things that you do best and keep you feeling great.

10. Put in great fuel. Moderation being the key, do your best to balance out rich, sweet, salty foods and extreme drinks with food and drink that make you feel great. Try to incorporate fresh, non-packaged foods daily as well as fruits, whole-grain breads and light foods. Incorporate plenty of water to balance all the celebrating. That way, when you do attend the festivities, you know that you have done your best at balance and wonÂ’t feel bloated and guilty for days after.

11. Keep entertaining simple. Maybe you reduce the number of events you host, or perhaps you can convert one into a potluck. Remember, the holiday season is not about being a perfect entertainer with flawless gourmet treats; it is about the gathering of people we care about. Enjoy the company and let yourself off the hook a bit about hosting so many (or any) events. (And please, if you are hosting an event because you feel you have to, pass the torch on to someone who might actually enjoy the honor!)

12. Laugh and have fun! You need not have riches galore or the best presents to celebrate the holidays. Remember to lighten up and have fun — that, after all, is what the holidays were designed for -- to honor and celebrate. When you find yourself getting too serious, play! Play with kids, the dog, buddies, go bowling. Laughing is uplifting, healing and just plain fun.
