Society for New Communications Research Announces 2009 Fellows; Names Dr. Nora Ganim Barnes Research Chair



SNCR Fellows include a leading group of futurists, scholars, business leaders, professional communicators, members of the media and technologists from around the globe - all collaborating together on research initiatives, educational offerings and the establishment of best practices

The Society for New Communications Research (http://sncr. org), a global, nonprofit think tank focused on the latest developments in media and communications, today announced its 2009 Fellows (http://sncr. org/fellows/). These new Fellows join the Society's existing group of business leaders, scholars, professional communicators, members of the media, futurists and technologists from around the globe. The Society's Fellows collaborate on original research and educational programs focused on the advanced study of emerging trends and developments in media and communications, and their effect on business, professional communications, media, and society.



The 2009 SNCR Fellows include Connie Bensen, online community strategist for Techrigy; journalist Andria Y. Carter, online editor of Trentonian. com; Marcia L. Conner, managing director of Ageless Learner and Fast Company columnist; Mark Chrisman, senior instructional designer for T-Mobile USA; Vanessa DiMauro, CEO of Leader Networks; Laura Fitton, Twitter expert and founder of Pistachio Consulting; R. Craig Lefebvre, PhD, new media expert and designer of public health and social change programs; public relations strategist and author of Now Is Gone, Geoff Livingston; Gaurav Mishra, the Yahoo! Fellow in International Values, Communications, Technology, and Global Internet at Georgetown University; John Quinn, media veteran and public affairs marketing director for ABC affiliate WJLA-TV in Washington, DC; Susanne Rockwell, Web editor for University Communications at the University of California, Davis; Todd Van Hoosear, senior analyst for SocialSphere Strategies; Dr. Tamara L. Wandel, Ph. D., assistant professor in communication at the University of Evansville; and Charlotte Ziems, vice president of client engagement at Tendo Communications.



In addition, the Society named five new Senior Fellows: online and mobile media expert Colin Crawford, Alan Kelly, founder of the Playmaker's Standard; Don Middleberg, CEO of Middleberg Communications; Carolyn Ockels, co-founder of Emergent Research; and Joseph Thornley, cofounder and CEO of Thornley Fallis and 76design.



The Society also announced that SNCR Senior Fellow Dr. Nora Ganim Barnes, Ph. D. will take on the role of Research Chair of the Society. Dr. Barnes is Chancellor Professor of Marketing and Information Systems and director of the UMASS Center for Marketing Research at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.



During 2009, the SNCR Fellows will focus on numerous research and education projects, including: social media metrics and measurement (best practices and standards); adoption trends of social media and Web 2.0 tools and technologies by small businesses, enterprise organizations and the higher education sector; new developments in mobile media; new business models for news organizations; social media and philanthropy; Twitter and other micro tools; social media and public health; and shifts in business and economic behavior resulting from new communication technologies and the growing impact of social media and connective technologies on business and the economy.
