Everyone loves a parade and Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital is teaming with Porsche Club of America and the Village of Oak Lawn to host what could be Chicago’s largest Porsche parade in history. This unprecedented partnership is part of a unique collaboration with Porsche Cars North America and Porsche AG to present a series of one-of-a-kind events this summer that will benefit thousands of pediatric patients and give one lucky winner a chance to drive away in a brand new 2011 Porsche Cayenne S, with a retail value of $79,000.

Since 1956, Porsche Club of America has hosted a week-long series of events, featuring an annual “parade” of Porsches, but never before has a children’s hospital been asked to go along for the ride.

“Thanks to longtime Hope Children’s Hospital supporters, Tom Shirey, owner of Shirey Cadillac in Oak Lawn and Bill Keyser, Advocate Charitable Foundation board member, this is the very first time Porsche Club of America has chosen to raise charitable funds to benefit a children’s hospital,” said Jennifer Hendrick, director of development. “Porsche Club of America members will be flying in from all over the nation to participate with more than 100 Porsche vehicles on display. We couldn’t be more grateful to have an opportunity to partner with such an amazing company like Porsche to help us continue our mission of providing the best care to our pediatric patients and their families.”

The Porsche Show and Shine parade kicks into gear at Noon on Sunday, June 13. The event is ‘free’ to the public and will give parade-goers a look at everything from Porsche classics to race cars. The parade will begin at Shirey Cadillac, 10825 S. Central Ave. in Oak Lawn and end at Hope Children’s Hospital, where pediatric patients currently being treated will get their own private Porsche parade show and tour.

“It will be like a beauty pageant of four-wheeled sports cars and I can already see how much this event is revving up our patients and the community,” said Hendrick.

Oak Lawn Mayor Dave Heilmann is equally excited about the parade. “What a wonderful day this will be for families in Oak Lawn,” said Heilmann. “We have a terrific international company like Porsche and hundreds of volunteers coming together to raise funds for children who receive life-saving care at Hope Children's Hospital.”

On July 2nd, Porsche will host an “exclusive” Sports Drive Event to benefit Hope. Select sponsors will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join a professional race car driver for a drive and ride in their favorite Porsche on a closed course at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet.

“We are extremely blessed to have been chosen as beneficiary for such a momentous series of events,” said Christ Medical Center and Hope Children’s Hospital president, Ken Lukhard. “What Porsche is doing on behalf of our children’s hospital speaks volumes about the company’s 100-year history of always delivering excellence and quality, and these events are no exception.”

Heir to the Porsche brand, Hans Peter Porsche, is expected to be on hand to greet guests on Saturday, July 3rd at a special Drive for Hope reception that will be held in a private hospitality suite at the DuPage County Airport. Attendees also will enjoy an elegant buffet and music. A Porsche Welcome Party will follow, where the winner of the new 2011 Porsche Cayenne S will be announced.

“Every event offers associates, physicians, donors and the community an opportunity to get involved and help make a difference in the lives of the thousands of children treated at Hope each year,” said Hendrick.

Proceeds will support expanding the children’s hospital to serve one of the fastest growing pediatric populations in the region. According to the most recent census, nearly 30 percent of households in the Southland have children under the age of 18.
